Case Study: Project Management in Action for the World Food Programme

At Written Progress, project management is our secret weapon—something our clients often don’t realize they need until they see it in action. This was exactly the case when the World Food Programme (WFP) enlisted our help to analyze how climate change would impact food security in several countries. The task was to deliver polished, robust reports, but we took it a little bit further.

From the outset, we didn’t just handle the research; we built the entire process. We set up data platforms to streamline information sharing, coordinated calls with climate and food security experts, and led in-country interviews and validation workshops with local stakeholders. We created shared resource libraries and developed a templated framework that ensured consistency across multiple reports.

The project involved several other contributing research teams, and Written Progress took the lead in organizing their efforts. These teams followed the processes we built, which helped ensure that despite the involvement of many voices from around the world, the final products were cohesive and easy to digest as a unified series of reports. Our clients were particularly thrilled with how efficiently everything moved forward, thanks to our leadership.

What truly set this project apart, however, was the linguistic and cultural complexity we managed. The four national analyses we led were conducted entirely in French, with all the nuances and specificities that come with working across multiple languages and cultural contexts. Rather than translating documents into French as an afterthought, we ensured that the reports were created in French from the ground up, honoring the linguistic integrity of the in-country stakeholders. Only after the work was completed did we translate the final products into English for the World Food Programme’s review. And we didn’t miss a beat.

Managing multi-cultural stakeholders across languages and time zones is where we excel. Our ability to navigate complex, cross-border projects allowed the WFP to focus on the broader picture while we handled the day-to-day project management. The result? A seamless, efficient experience that delivered actionable insights to help inform the WFP’s work on food security and climate resilience—exactly what they needed, with none of the stress of managing a global research project.
